Oakbrook

Welcome to Oak Brook!

The Village of Oak Brook ranks amongst the wealthiest in not only Illinois, but also the United States. It’s population is approximately 9000 and it is home to notable headquarters such as McDonald’s, Ace Hardware, Blistex and Lions Club International.

Located 19 miles west of Chicago, it is surrounded by major roads including the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294), the East-West Tollway (Interstate 88), and the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290). Although Oak Brook is not serviced by any Metra trains, their are train stations in neighboring towns and the highways allow you to travel in any direction for work.

The majority of Oak Brook is residential and has 25 gated communities. Although residents share their village with the 90,000 people who work there daily, they pay no municipal taxes thanks to the revenue generated by the Oakbrook Center shopping mall, restaurants and hotels.

Oak Brook is split between eight school districts. Some neighborhoods attend Oak Brook’s school district while others attend in neighboring towns. High School students attend one of 4 neighboring schools as Oak Brook does not have its own high school.

The most popular tourist attraction in DuPage County is OakBrook Center, an upscale, outdoor shopping mall that is anchored by 5 major department stores. Its mix of fine dining is a nice compliment to the 160 upscale shops that are surrounded by gardens, fountains and trees.

Oak Brook residents also enjoy the village owned Sports Core which offers tennis courts, pools, golf course, driving range and polo field. The park district offer the Family Recreation Center that includes an aquatic center, fitness club, basketball courts and indoor running track, plus the Racquet Club which has tennis and handball courts, saunas and whirlpools.

History buffs enjoy Mayslake Forest Preserve that includes the 39 room mansion built by the Peabody Family and the 1852 Graue Mill and Museum, a National Historic Landmark and the only operating waterwheel gristmill in Illinois. The mill’s location helped make it an ideal station along the Underground Railroad in the 1800s.
